In this presentation I had made to my colleagues in Chicago, I discussed the NMDA receptor and its role in modulating pain. Of note is its beneficial effects when other medications have failed (opioids, anti-convulsants). In certain disease states like CRPS (Type 1 and Type 2) the use of medications that also block these receptors may mean the difference between debilitating pain and improved function. I hope this brief discussion is useful, please bring your questions to your next visit with me.
